The works at Bryn Beryl hospital consisted of total refurbishment of hospital wards for the Betsi Cadwaladr health board. These works were completed in 2 phases: Phase 1 involved the demolition of the mental health unit and converting this into two new wards with 10 beds; subsequently, phase 2 consisted of merging 2 wards to one large ward with 13 beds. The project also involved creating a new corridor to link wards with x-ray department and clinics. Furthermore, a new bespoke GRP shed was constructed to house the new medical gas plantroom. This project was challenging as the work had to be completed in a live environment, so care was taken to minimise disruption and ensure healthcare continuity over the course of the project. The refurbishment also included re-flooring and repainting the wards. The refurbishments created a spacious new ward area and day room for the patients.
